Poem: Unwanted

I lie in silence upon the ground,
My lips unable to make a sound.
Now I know how I am unwanted
As I understand words never said.
To the days of old I must bid farewell.
I must keep the words I had hoped to tell
Enclosed in my heart, far from your ear,
For still, I hold you inside so dear.

Unwanted as I am, I cannot stay;
My wings broken, I’ll cry myself away,
Perhaps to reach a more welcoming shore
And see more of what life can have in store,
For a heart as weary as mine.
